Seventh Avenue Presbyterian Church - Staff Profile
The Rev. Rob Stewart - Parish Associate
Rob is happy to be Parish Associate and have a formal relationship with this faith community. Rob is an ordained Presbyterian minister and has served churches in Kansas City, Newport Beach, San Francisco. He has also spent some time as a hospital chaplain.
At SAPC Rob is serving on the Advisory Board of "Companions on the Inner Way" retreats and occasionally preaches and teaches. He has also coordinated a number of CROP Hunger Walks for Church World Service, including six in San Francisco. In his spare time, Rob answers phones for KQED San Francisco Public Radio/TV during fundraising drives, sorts debris with the archaeologists of the Presidio, and places flags on MUNI street cars for summer holidays.
He has also served Meals for the Homeless, a Program of San Francisco Interfaith Council and constructed homes with Habitat for Humanity in San Francisco as well as in Orange County and Mexico.
A native of Erie, Pennsylvania, Rob attended Eckerd College in Florida and Louisville (KY) Presbyterian Seminary where he received a Master of Divinity degree. The focus of his ministry has been in the areas of education, worship and the arts, and spiritual practices.
Rob's hobbies include reading historical fiction and nonfiction (especially early Christianity), traveling (so far: all 50 U.S.
states, plus 17 countries), enjoying theatre (particularly Sondheim musicals), music (playing piano and singing), photography, walking (in the city, through the woods and on the beach), as well as bicycling in Golden Gate Park and beyond.
Being a part of a community of faith is essential for Rob. Having friends who respect and care for one another while celebrating each one's diversity is an amazing and fulfilling experience. Coming together, worshiping God and serving our community unifies and clarifies a life of prayer. "How good and pleasant it is for the people of God to live together in unity." (Psalm 133:1)
