Seventh Avenue Presbyterian Church - Staff Profile
The Rev. Todd Jolly - Parish Associate
Since 1997, he has been music teacher and choirmaster in San Francisco at Stuart Hall for Boys, where he has taught classroom music, kindergarten through eighth grade, and directs two boy choirs. Concurrently, he is the music director at St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Berkeley, directing the adult choir and handbells, composing music for worship, and overseeing the overall music program. Previously, he was the Director of Liturgical Music at Seventh Avenue Presbyterian Church in San Francisco, where he remains a Parish Associate. For the past three years, he has conducted San Francisco Renaissance Voices (sfrv.org), who are artists-in-residence at Seventh Avenue Church. In July, he performed under Ian Robertson and Donald Runnicles as part of the Festival Chorale of the prestigious Teton Music Festival in Wyoming. At one time a director in the training chorus of the San Francisco Boys Chorus, he can still be heard frequently accompanying the group on timpani and percussion at concerts and on recordings. During the 2004 fall semester, Todd was the composer-in-residence for the vocal program at San Francisco School of the Arts High School, where his pieces To Be Read at a Funeral and The Oath were performed. In addition, he has been a tenor section leader of the San Francisco Choral Society, is a published composer, and a free-lance percussionist.
Todd earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Trenton State College as a percussionist, where he also studied instrumental conducting in graduate school. He holds a Master of Divinity degree from San Francisco Theological Seminary, and is a minister member of San Francisco Presbytery. In addition, he is a member of Early Music America and American Choral Directors Association.
Married to Judith Murio for the past eleven years, Todd lives in San Francisco, where he and Judi are now empty nesters. Between them they have five children and two grandchildren. They enjoy cooking (breads and salads are Todd’s specialties), collecting wine, and gardening together, while Todd’s individual pursuits include hiking and ping pong.
